Nunavut, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories
Nunavut
Nunavut with its harsh arctic landscape is the place to go if you
want to eat traditional native food like whale skin, either boiled or
raw, sometimes dipped in soy sauce. You will be amazed by the natural
beauty of the land and the friendliness of the people who, if you are
lucky, may invite you into their homes to taste some of the best scallops
and turbot caught fresh out of the sea that very day!
See
the official website of Nunavut.
The Yukon
While in the Yukon, you may want to visit Whitehorse, so named
because the Whitehorse rapids are said to resemble the mane of a white
horse. Check out the Yukon Transportation Museum featuring early methods
of transportation used by the Nation’s First Peoples, such as dogsleds,
skin boats and snow shoes.
The Northwest Territories is often referred to as the land of
plenty due to its thousands of lakes and thousands of miles of land; consider
this - over one and a half million caribou roam the Territories! The land
has been supporting the Inuit People for over nine thousand years. You
might enjoy such traditional fare as bannock or caribou stew.
See the official website of the Northwest
Territories and the official website of the Yukon.
